Character
education is the primary goal in all of our programs. The combat moves are secondary. When someone trains in class and practices on a regular basis, the physical skills
improve anyway. It is the character education that needs our attention.
All
students that enrol at the Budokai Black Belt Academy do so with the intention of becoming a black belt, right from their
very first lesson. The coveted black belt is an icon of skill, integrity, knowledge
and demands respect. All students bow to black belts and address them as ‘sensei’
meaning ‘teacher’.
In
order to be a black belt you must think like a black belt! For
this reason we have to develop "Black Belt Attitude". To help us do this we have
a creed called "the components of black belt attitude" which is as follows:
·
Always be Kind and Polite
·
Think Positive
·
Try Hard
·
Integrity (Strength of Character)
·
Truth
·
Understanding
·
Do the Right Thing
·
Example Setting
This
is how we sell the idea to children so that they buy into the whole ethos on an emotional level. This has been an effective tool, which has benefited many children and as a result... Parents too!
